About the Northern Rockies Child Development Association

For over 30 years, the Northern Rockies Child Development Association has done exceptional work with thousands of children, youth, and their families with developmental needs. The NRCDA enjoys an excellent reputation and is a CARF-accredited agency.

Our team of 30+ staff provides therapeutic, individual, and group support as well as childcare services each year to more than 900 families. Our professionals include family resource navigators, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, early childhood educators, early childhood assistants, adult support workers, supported child development consultants, infant development consultants, family navigators, child advocates, and child and youth support workers.

Programs are funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), Community Living BC (CLBC), Transcare Canada, Ministry of Education and Childcare, and Ministry of Justice. We are fortunate to have additional funding from the community and generous donors.

About Fort Nelson

Fort Nelson is located in the northeast corner of British Columbia, Canada. We are a community within the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM). The Northern Rockies Child Development Association is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who generously donate their time, effort, and expertise to ensure the highest possible level of service to the children and families we serve.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Board of Directors

  • Providing guidance to nonprofits by contributing to the organization’s culture, strategic focus, effectiveness, and financial sustainability.
  • Serving as ambassadors and advocates.
  • Helping shape an organization’s strategy.
  • Overseeing its management.
  • Ensuring its adherence to laws, regulations, and ethical practices.
  • Ensuring effective organizational planning.
  • Providing sufficient resources.
  • Meet once a month.
  • A commitment of about 15 hours annually.

President

  • Chief Executive officer of the society, who supervises the other officers in the execution of their duties, as well as presides over all meetings of the board.

Vice President

  • Carries out the duties of the President in his/her absence. (only in place if the board members are greater than five members)

Secretary/Treasurer

  • Supervises the board correspondence of the society.
  • Reviews financial records and ensures they are kept safe to comply with the Society Act and renders financial statements to the directors, members, and others when required.

Note: Secretary/Treasurer may be held as two positions if enough volunteers are secured.

Director at Large

  • Act as ambassadors for the organization, promoting its mission and activities to external stakeholders, including potential donors and the broader community.

Executive Director (Ex-Officio Member)

Has no vote; shall attend all meetings of the directors; shall be an ex-officio member of all committees of directors.
